STATEMENT OF FAITH
Statement of Faith – Word of Life Church JB
-
We believe that the Bible (both Old and New Testaments) is the verbally inspired Word of God, without error in its original writing, and is the final authority for all faith, life and conduct.
-
-
We believe in one God, eternally existent in three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit—co-equal in power and glory, yet distinct in role.
-
-
We believe in the deity of the Lord Jesus Christ: that He was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary; that He lived a sinless life; performed miracles; died on the cross as a substitutionary sacrifice for our sins; was buried; rose bodily from the dead; ascended into heaven; and will personally and visibly return to judge the living and the dead and to establish His eternal Kingdom.
-
-
We believe that because of Adam’s fall, all humanity is born with a sinful nature, separated from God and under His righteous condemnation.
-
-
We believe that salvation is by God’s grace alone, through faith alone, in Christ alone. When a person repents of sin and trusts Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour, that person is born again by the Holy Spirit, becomes a child of God and receives eternal life.
-
-
We believe in the presence and power of the Holy Spirit: that He indwells every believer from the moment of conversion; that He empowers believers for holy living and service; and that the gifts of the Spirit are given for the building up of the body of Christ.
-
-
We believe that the Church (local and universal) is the body of Christ, called to worship God, proclaim the Gospel, disciple believers, and demonstrate God’s love to the world.
-
-
We believe in the two ordinances given by Christ for the Church’s observance:
-
Water baptism by immersion, identifying the believer with the death, burial and resurrection of Christ.
-
Holy Communion (the Lord’s Supper), as a memorial of Christ’s body and blood, and a means of fellowship among believers.
-
-
-
We believe in the bodily resurrection of the just and the unjust: those who have trusted Christ will enter eternal life with God; those who persist in unbelief will face eternal separation from God.
-
-
We believe in the authority of Scripture to guide our understanding of ethics, morality and Christian living. We hold to Christ’s example and teaching of holiness, love, integrity, and the life of a disciple in the world.
-
-
We believe in God’s mission to the nations: that every believer is to be a witness of Jesus Christ; that the Church is to make disciples of all nations; and that God’s Kingdom will one day be fully revealed when Christ returns.
-
-
We believe that Christian marriage, as ordained by God, is the union of one man and one woman, and that all other sexual activity outside of this context is contrary to the Scriptures.
-
-
We believe that human life is sacred because it is created by God; that the unborn, the aged and all persons made in God’s image deserve protection and dignity.
